Goals, resolutions, intentions. These days are so saturated with all sorts of synonyms for one thing: making ourselves better. The turn of the year is a great time to reflect on the last 365 days and refocus on what matters to us most. I know some people aren’t a fan of this sort of thing, but the truth is, I relish in it. I love that each year comes packaged as its own clean slate. I mean, even if there is so much coming with me from 2019 into this new year, I can make the symbolic gesture of removing one calendar and hanging up another.
This year, I decided to spin my goals a little differently. Normally, I would make one list of goals, but this time I got fancy. Okay, not really, but I grouped my goals into two categories. My core goals are my main focuses, the ones that I want to make sure I leave this year having put a dent in. My enrichment goals are things that are individually less critical, but would enhance my life when I have spare time here and there to pursue them. That said, I give you my goals for 2020!
1. Launch my business!
I haven’t spoken too much about this yet, but my dear friend, Bethany, and I are starting a new public relations business: QB Correspondence. In 2019, I learned that I absolutely love channeling my skills as a writer in the PR direction, and we decided to go for it with this venture! We’re going to get QB off the ground and get it soaring in 2020.
2. Grow Word Oasis.
I would be forgetting something very important if I left this blog off of my list. Word Oasis has evolved immensely over the past few years, but now I’m going into 2020 with a clear direction for this passion project. I want Word Oasis to grow this year, so I’m gearing up for my best and most consistent content yet.
3. Create spaces conducive with my life.
This one is the most abstract. What I mean is I want my living space to be the most functional and enjoyable for my life. I want to shift some things around, declutter plenty, and create an outlet for my life to thrive. More to come on this process as previously mentioned upgraded content.
4. Maintain a daily yoga practice and establish a workout routine.
If the last one was the most abstract, this one is the most cliché. However, I need and want this. Yoga is the first workout activity I’ve found since my competitive gymnastics days that I really love. I want to get on the mat every day, if only for a couple of minutes. As for “workout routine”, that has a ton of wiggle room. I want to implement some strength training, cardio (likely walking and dancing!), and probably a lot of handstands. We’ll see, but I’m leaving the whole thing open-ended for now so I can simply begin.
5. Make a doable budget and stick to it.
Okay, so my life and finances have changed drastically in the last couple years, and it’s time for a stricter budget that prioritizes saving and gets rid of unnecessary spending. I want to be intentional with my money so that I can further invest in myself and my passions all while creating a stable savings. Money also fuels a lot of charitable possibilities, so I want to factor those in, as well. I’m excited to buckle down and be conscious of where my money goes and how I handle it.
6. FINALLY finish a completed draft of Caspertown.
I want to dive into my novel this year. Head-first. All-in. Rooted in inspiration. Journeying to this goal I’ve held for years. This story has been a long time coming, but I’m going to use the time that has elapsed as a benefit and dig into a treasure trove of ideas I’ve accumulated. I can’t wait to see how this one ends.
7. Publish a piece of my original writing.
At this point of my life, I want nothing more than to cultivate one of my writing projects and put it out there for the world to see. I’m excited to start this process and learn more about publication. I’m not sure which piece or even genre I will pursue for publication first, but I know this is just the beginning. I’m looking forward to getting feedback and learning more about myself as a writer through this process!
- Become a better cook and learn how to prepare more meals.
- Read at least ten books for pleasure.
- Journal something every day.
- Reduce my time on social media by setting controls on my phone.
- Refresh my knowledge of the Spanish language and continue to pursue it.
- Experience more art: theater (especially musicals!), art museums, open mic nights, concerts, etc.
In closing, and on the behalf of my kitty, Misty, I’d like to wish you a wonderful year full of growth and prosperity!
